Earth Hour Coming Up!!

Remember to turn off your lights and watch 11alive tonight from 8:00 to 9:00. If you miss it,you can catch up on the news at;

(I understand if you'd rather watch the "March Madness" final four!)

For Monday: for those of you who didn't have the micronations lab finished, finish it and show it to me on Monday. We will continue in chpt. 8 & 9 so be sure to read and take notes. Pay close attention to vocabulary, case studies, and theories/models. Review the article quest and the international organizations packet. Go through the chapters and see if you can answer the key issue questions. Read the summaries at the end of the chapters. Check out Thinking Spatially and the multiple choice quizzes on the text book web sites. If you can't access the 9th edition, remember to use the 8th edition--you can access it from the list of useful web sites on our gifted center web page.

ATTENTION PARENTS!!! Ask your student for their progress reports. They should have one for each of their classes. Progress reports were given out on Thursday and Friday.

Enjoy the rest of your week-end.

Hang in there!

I know these 3 hour mornings are tough, but we only have two to go. And then one more week until Spring Break!
Please be sure to keep up with all of your work. You should be done with chpt. 8 and reading chpt. 9 by now. Re-visit your generic study guide that I gave you at the beginning of the semester. You should be keeping up with vocabulary. Make flash cards, draw pictures, do something to learn the vocab and to quiz yourself. Also, pay close attention to the case studies in the text and all of the visuals.
See you tomorrow!

FRQ Reminders and Help

Hey everyone--(check the previous postings)
You can share the slide show we saw in class on Friday!
I was not able to upload question # 3 to the blog (for some reason it won't accept a PDF). So for those of you who were not in class on Friday, please do the outlines for the number 1 & 2 FRQ, and you will have to get number 3 on Monday.
Everyone remember that you MUST show me outlines for all three questions on Monday. Then you will choose two to write. We will only spend 45 minutes on this so you must be ready!
ADOPTED COUNTRY PROJECT ALERT!!!
You received a mid-term checklist for your project. You should be working on this. If you haven't started, get yourself organized and get going. There isn't a lot of time left and what is left will be very busy with tests, projects, etc. from all of your classes.
Enjoy the sunny day after all of those storms yesterday!
See you tomorrow.

AP Test Registration Due Tomorrow!!

Please remember to bring your $20 payment and registration for the National AP Human Geography Exam. Taking the exam is one of the most important aspects of taking an AP course. Please don't miss this opportunity to qualify for college credit and to gain experience in taking a national standardized test.

Tomorrow we will finish up our comparative religion presentations. We will 'wrap up' the culture unit on Thursday with a deeper look into the conflicts in the Middle East and other hot spots around the world. Please finish reading and taking notes on chapter 7 if you haven't already. Also, review the vocabulary at the end of the chapter. You need to understand centrifugal and centripetal forces, nationalism, nations, nation-states, balkanization, apartheid and be able to discuss real world current examples of these concepts.

On Friday, we will practice FRQ's!!

Watch the news and see if there are any situations that illustrate the vocabuary for this unit. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/23505820#23505820

Check - UP Time

It's a good day to stay inside and catch up on your AP Human Geography projects! Try curling up for an hour and reading a few chapters in your parallel reading book. Or finish up your part in the comparative religion project. Keep in contact with your group members and coordinate your presentation. Those of you who have been absent for the last few days, need to make sure that you do your part of the project. No one has an excuse for not doing their part!

On Monday, I will be giving a mid-term check list to keep you up to date on your adopted country project. Today would be a good time to take out the guidelines for that project and work on it. You should be done with the Unit I and II aspects and be working on the Unit III parts.

Attention UnitIV bulletin board group--you should begin putting up the bulletin board on Thursday, March 13th. It should be completely up and ready for grading by Monday, March 17th.
On Monday we will go over the article quest on ethnic conflicts around the world and also the case studies on conflict in chapters 6,7 in your textbook. I strongly suggest that if you haven't read chapter 7 yet that you do so and take notes on the ethnic conflicts discussed in the chapter!!!
Stay warm!!

What's going on in your adopted country?

Remember that you have to collect articles about your adopted country. Why not do a search right now and find out about the cultural issues that your country is dealing with currently? One place to start is to check out your country's government web site. It will probably have links to newspaper articles.

Tomorrow we will continue our investigation of ethnic conflicts around the world. You will also have project time and access to the computer lab.

Those of you who have make-up work, remember that the deadline is this Friday!
Take care and watch the news!
